Anyone who shows up in traditional costume will receive free entry to HC Linz AG’s home game against Bärnbach/Köflach on Saturday (7 p.m.). The handball first division team is doing everything it can to fill the modernized Kleinmünchner hall even outside of any final games. There are enough sporting reasons for the seven-time champions to be in a good mood: the runner-up’s radically restructured team works practically straight away. Three of the first four league games were won, which meant sixth place in the table, just one point behind leader Schwaz.

Nevertheless, coach Milan Vunjak’s worry lines are currently relatively deep. “We don’t know yet who can play on Saturday”, the Linz trainer explains that the personnel situation has practically not eased since the 27:33 at the weekend in Schwaz. Bärnbach is still too early for Nicolas Paulnsteiner, whose intervertebral disc appeared during strength training. There is uncertainty about Lucijan Fizuleto, the linchpin of the Linz game. Since the home win over Hard, the Slovenian’s thigh has been aching. What was initially suspected to be a strain turned out to be a torn muscle fiber during yesterday’s magnetic resonance, meaning the 29-year-old will probably be out for four weeks. Meanwhile, there is hope for Arnad Hamzic, who could possibly even celebrate his comeback tomorrow after a deep tear in his hand. The doctor is supposed to decide today.

How long does Hermann help out?

As long as Hamzic is out, at least that was the agreement, Alex Hermann, who declared his career over in the summer, will help out Linz. What is certain is that the 31-year-old will definitely play against Bärnbach/Köflach. Given the recent injuries, will they seek an extension? “If there’s even a chance in a thousand that he’ll continue to help us, then I’ll give it a try”says Vunjak.
