Bundesliga: RB misses victory against Bayern – Leverkusen in first place

Bayer Leverkusen is first again. Xabi Alonso’s team wins in Mainz and benefits from FC Bayern Munich’s result in the top game at RB Leipzig.

Borussia Dortmund has already lost its lead in the Bundesliga. With a 3-0 (1-0) win at bottom team FSV Mainz 05, Bayer 04 Leverkusen (16 points) moved to the top and benefited from Bayern’s mistake.

The Munich team only managed a 2-2 (0-2) draw at RB Leipzig on Saturday evening and are now in third place. Second is VfB Stuttgart (15). The Swabians won 2-0 (0-0) against 1. FC Köln, who were still without a win, on Saturday.

After the defeat in the Supercup, Bayern were again unable to win against Leipzig. In the 20th minute, Loïs Openda gave coach Marco Rose’s team the lead, and just six minutes later Castello Lukeba increased the lead. Bayern scored with a hand penalty after a video decision, and striker Harry Kane was there from the spot (57′). Leroy Sané (70th) equalized.

A win in Mainz put Leverkusen at the top of the table in the afternoon. Mainz professional Sepp van den Berg scored into his own net in the 18th minute. Alejandro Grimaldo made it 2-0 with a dream free kick (59′), Leverkusen’s third goal was scored by Jonas Hofmann (65′).

Heidenheim wins against Union

Newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim defeated 1. FC Union Berlin 1-0 (0-0), who suffered their fifth competitive defeat in a row. VfL Wolfsburg defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 (1-0). In a duel between two previously winless teams, Borussia Mönchengladbach won their first three-point win of the season at VfL Bochum with a 3-1 (2-0).

In Cologne, Deniz Undav was in the game for six minutes when the Joker scored the opening goal (68th) for VfB Stuttgart. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß had substituted him for defensive man Atakan Karazor. Undav also scored goal number two (88th). The defeated Cologne team has now been without a win in eight championship games across the season.

For the last half hour in Wolfsburg, Frankfurt Eintracht had to play outnumbered after a yellow-red card against Mario Götze. Goal scorer Jonas Wind scored both goals for the home team (31st and 84th/foul penalty).

Union was unable to end its series of defeats in Heidenheim either. The Champions League participant conceded the decisive goal in the 59th minute. Jan-Niklas Beste ensured the newcomer’s victory with a free kick into the corner. The Iron Men have never suffered five defeats in a row under coach Urs Fischer.

Gladbach wins in Bochum

In Bochum it was even more exciting at the end. Florian Neuhaus gave Borussia the lead in their first win this season in the 27th minute, after which Alassane Pléa scored twice (37th/45th+3). After Anthony Losilla’s goal (68th), the ball was again in the Gladbach goal in the fifth minute of injury time. According to video evidence, Losilla’s goal again was disallowed in a heated final phase because of a foul.

BVB temporarily took the lead in the table on Friday evening with a 3-1 win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, before first Bayer and then Bayern overtook them. The matches between SV Darmstadt 98 against SV Werder Bremen (3:30 p.m.) and SC Freiburg against FC Augsburg (5:30 p.m./both DAZN) are scheduled for Sunday.
