The captain of the Argentine rugby team, Jerónimo De la Fuente, assured this afternoon that “Chile was a difficult opponent, but we are happy with our performance”, after the victory obtained by Los Pumas against the trans-Andean team by 59-5, in a match valid for zone D of the France 2023 World Cup.
“Today we had to face Chile, a difficult opponent, and fortunately we delivered. We were able to show an intense and offensive level of play,” said the captain.
“We went from low to high; we gained confidence in a defining match,” added De la Fuente.
Argentina had debuted with a loss against England (10-27) and then defeated Samoa (19-10). Once the victory over Chile has been completed, Los Pumas depend on themselves to reach the quarterfinals against Japan, next Sunday, October 8.
Later, the Rosario captain added that “the dynamics we had gave us the possibility of finding spaces and the best of all was that we had fun.”
“As the games go by we are growing and beyond the large result, in the rotation of players it was seen that those who entered contributed their level. This gives us confidence for the next game against Japan,” he added.
Later, De la Fuente considered that “the team showed dynamism, we saw the game that we could not capture against England and Samoa. I am happy for many things, for the hundred matches of Nicolás Sánchez and for all the players who were able to debut in the World Cup in France,” he said.
“It is difficult to express what I feel, there are too many feelings. I am very happy to put on the Los Pumas shirt again, to be in a World Cup again and for the responsibility and pride of being the captain in this match,” he said.
