The eagerly awaited all-Austrian quarter-final duel at the ATP tournament in Astana between Sebastian Ofner and Dominic Thiem went to the former 5:7, 6:4 and 6:2.
The next opponent in the round of the last four is the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. He took Jurij Rodionov, the third Austrian, out of the competition in the quarter-finals yesterday with 6:1, 7:6 (6). In the second round, the Lower Austrian missed eleven set points against the world number 34.
As a result, Rodionov was denied his second semi-final after Stuttgart 2021, but he will return to the top 100 after several strong performances in Astana. In doubles, Sam Weissborn and Monegasque Romain Arneodo were eliminated in the quarterfinals in two sets against Mate Pavic/John Peers. At the 500 tournament in Beijing, Alexander Erler/Lukas Miedler also ended up in the second round after two rounds against the Russians Karen Khachanow/Andrej Rublev.
