Since this summer, Upper Austria has had another women’s football export abroad: Katharina Reikersdorfer moved from SPG Kleinmünchen/BW Linz to FC Ingolstadt in the second German Bundesliga during the last transfer period and signed a one-year contract with the “Schanzerinnen”.
“It was clear to me that I would go abroad after I finished school,” says the 19-year-old, who submitted an application video for a trial training session with the German second division club. “Although I only took part in two units, I was immediately impressed by the team structure. I believe that as a type of player I fit well into the team.”
Ingolstadt coach Miren Catovic sees it similarly, where the summer newcomer from Linz is part of the regular staff in defensive midfield. With good performances against top teams like Hamburger SV or Borussia Mönchengladbach, Reikersdorfer wants to make herself interesting for the Austrian women’s national team: “It won’t be any easier as a legionnaire, but I’m definitely not giving up hope.”
3-0 on the weekend
Good performances at your new club would certainly increase your chances of making the national team: “My personal goal now is to develop further and get even more out of myself. I want to win a regular place and collect as many playing minutes as possible.” The big goal for the team is not to be involved in the relegation battle.
At least after five games things are looking very good in this regard: yesterday the next point increase was achieved with a 3-0 win at Carl Zeiss Jena – the Reikersdorf team is currently in fourth place.
