“A point away and a win at home – that’s how you actually become champions”, said Klagenfurt coach Peter Pacult with a pinch of irony after the 0-0 draw in the Bundesliga at Blau-Weiß Linz. For his counterpart, Blue and White coach Scheiblehner, it is currently the other way around: away from home they have already achieved two complete successes, but in the new Hofmann Personal Stadium his team is still waiting for its first home win even after the zero number against the Carinthians.
Scheiblehner leaves it cold: “This is not an issue for us. It’s about points and achievements. This was very mature again against Klagenfurt and another step forward. The first home win will come. We win away from home.” The goalless draw is also okay: In the first half, Linz had to thank goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid, who got fit in time after suffering from angina. After the break, Blau-Weiß Linz took over command.
In the final phase, the home team was lucky: the video referee intervened when Karweina from Klagenfurt scored – before the counterattack, the ball had jumped to Florian Jaritz’s hand from very close range. A decision that angered Pacult: “I’m just waiting for someone to say when skiing that skiers are no longer allowed to use their hands to help them, which is also a natural movement. In football, it’s just as natural a movement when someone shoots at you from one meter.” Blue and White coach Gerald Scheiblehner expressed understanding for his coaching colleague: “I think that you never really get the handball rule under control. But it definitely needs improvement.”
Five games unbeaten
Despite the VAR decision, Pacult was also able to live with the point. “We take the point with us. Blue and White have arrived in the league, they have to be congratulated. The new stadium is also great.” The Linz team confirmed their great form over the past few weeks: Blue and White have been unbeaten in five competitive games and have not conceded a goal in three of them. “We have found our way of playing football in the Bundesliga”says Scheiblehner. And next week his team will play away again.
In the cup against Altach
There were mixed feelings for the blue-whites when it came to the draw for the cup round of 16: With SCR Altach they had an opponent on an equal footing. Things could have been much worse with away games against Salzburg or Sturm. However, the game takes place in Altach – the journey couldn’t have been any longer.
