SV Traun: On the wave of success after the boycott

SV Traun remains the team of the moment in the Regional League East: After the confident 4-1 against Viktoria Marchtrenk, coach Markus Erbschwendtner’s team leads the table.

The Trauners have developed into a top team in the East – but not so long ago the club from the Linz suburb was more of a reaction to chaos: Last season there was a players’ strike at Traun because of Coach Erbschwendtner. But the club trusted its coach, then separated from the troublemakers and underwent a real upheaval. With success! “It was the best decision because we gave a few young players the chance at the time who benefited enormously from this state league experience,” says Erbschwendtner a good year later.

He even thought about resigning at the time: “You start with yourself first. We offered to resign, but that wasn’t an option for the leadership. She had our backs, that was a nice sign.” A new team was put together, which currently has seven wins and only one loss. “Our success proves us right. We have a good mix.”

Dream of the Upper Austrian League

Which is why the former Upper Austrian league club can slowly dream. Erbschwendtner: “Of course we wouldn’t refuse promotion, but there are other teams out there. We want to play in the front third.” And even that would have been practically unthinkable after – and even before – the player boycott a year ago…
