A law firm sent a letter to the British Government asking them to investigate whether Sheikh, owner of Manchester City, collaborated with Russia in the midst of the invasion of Ukraine. If proven, he will have to stop being the president of the club.
Manchester Citywith devastating dominance on the playing field, is threatened by a potential internal crisis, since a law firm that acts in favor of Ukrainian activists asked the British Government to investigate alleged links between Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahayan, owner of the club, and Russia.
The lawyers sent a note to the British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverlyto determine if Mansour -who in addition to being the owner of the Manchester City is Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates– helped Russian businessmen move their fortunes to the Emirates during the war with Ukraine.
If he British government determines that these links exist, the Sheikh could not continue as owner of the club as a consequence of the rules established by the Premier League.
The same were those that were applied to Roman AbramovichRussian tycoon who was forced to sell Chelsea in 2022.
The statement in question:
“Sheikh Mansour is the owner of one of the largest football clubs in the United Kingdom and is a person who should be subject to reasonable scrutiny by the British Government. For the avoidance of doubt, we do not accuse him of any type of conduct to Mansour. But, “In light of the fact that there is evidence in the public domain that some Russian wealth has been moved to the United Arab Emirates, we suggest that there is a basis for the British Government to carry out an investigation.”indicated the statement sent by the lawyers.
