Bundesliga: Nagelsmann can look forward to “Machine” Sané

Leroy Sané is currently having gala after gala. After the next top performance for FC Bayern, we head to the DFB team with a lot of self-confidence. Julian Nagelsmann is already formulating clear ideas.

This “machine” certainly also pleases national coach Julian Nagelsmann. After the next gala for FC Bayern Munich, Leroy Sané was able to board the national soccer team’s plane to Boston full of confidence.

The 27-year-old once again shone in FC Bayern’s 3-0 win against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga – and the offensive player, who is currently in European Championship form, wants to show this momentum in training and games during the North American trip.

At the international matches in September, the 27-year-old celebrated as a goalscorer in the 1:4 debacle against Japan and the 2:1 morale boost against France. And in everyday life at the Munich club, the offensive star, who in his own opinion is “often pointedly” rated, is more stable this season than ever before in his three years at Bayern.

Coach Tuchel is thrilled

“It has a lot to do with his well-being,” said coach Thomas Tuchel, explaining Sané’s consistently good form. “He is extremely talented and has the physical ability to do it. He is a machine.” Tuchel and Sané – this connection also seems to fit. “We have a connection to each other,” said Tuchel: “The chemistry is right.”

During the grueling English weeks, the 50-year-old described the special qualities of his exceptional footballer, whom he gave a well-intentioned kick in the backside during his first training session when he took office six months ago. “He can push himself to a limit that is not the limit for everyone. He has a different limit than others depending on his physical conditions,” said Tuchel. Sané polarizes like hardly any other German professional – but he is currently delighting everyone.

The tight timing of the game plan is apparently not a problem for Sané. On the contrary. “He really enjoys playing every three days,” said sports director Christoph Freund. “We all know that he is a really good kicker. But the fact that he delivers with such consistency is unusual and of course a lot of fun.”

New Sané contract is approaching

Sané is tied to the Munich team until June 30, 2025, and the new contract is being planned. “We will certainly have discussions in the next few weeks. He is an exceptionally good player for Bayern Munich, a key player,” said Freund about Sané, who was signed from Manchester City in the summer of 2020 for around 50 million euros.

In the shadow of Sané, whose magic goal to make it 3-0 early was not counted due to a hint of offside, Kingsley Coman’s upswing was almost lost. “Kingsley is Kingsley and Leroy is Leroy,” Tuchel didn’t want to make a comparison. The 27-year-old Frenchman ended the goal drought with his first two goals of the season.

With the first goal, Coman was lucky that his cross slipped and hit the goal unstoppable. In the second, his shot was slightly deflected. “I think maybe he needed a goal just as much,” commented Tuchel.

Sané already scored his sixth goal of the season. “When he plays with freedom, desire and positive body language, he makes the difference,” said Tuchel. Nagelsmann, who emphasized Sané’s qualities as Bayern coach, is also counting on this. He tried to get Sané in top form, like Tuchel currently has, with a slightly longer leash.

“With such individualists who perhaps have the ability to decide moments in the game, there are also moments off the pitch that are not super pleasant for everyone,” noted Nagelsmann at the end of his time in Munich. In the end, you expect characters like that to maybe tip the scales and not step down when it counts.”
