Christoph Daum has been battling cancer for months. But the former Bundesliga coach is far from healed. He was deeply touched by a sentence from his former arch-enemy Uli Hoeneß.
Former Bundesliga coach Christoph Daum, who has cancer, is doing well under the circumstances. “The therapies have a positive effect, the cancer cells are decreasing slightly,” said the 69-year-old in an interview with “Bild”.
According to his own statement, the former master coach of VfB Stuttgart has now undergone 22 rounds of chemotherapy. But he was not cured. “Our goal was to turn an acute condition into a chronic one and to control the disease. I hope there can be more,” said the football coach.
Daum celebrates his 70th birthday in Cologne on October 24th. Shortly afterwards, a documentary about him will appear on the TV channel Sky. During filming there was also a meeting with his long-time arch enemy Uli Hoeneß at Tegernsee.
“I said: Uli, you were always against such crazy transfers. Now you’re paying 100 million for Kane. Uli replied: True, but nobody praises us for a full fixed-term deposit account,” said Daum, who now has a respectful relationship with the honorary president of the FC Bayern maintains. “He told me: Only two great personalities can fight each other like that. This sentence touched me very much.”
