In the background, Schwartzman beat Cerúndolo the three times they faced each other on the circuit: in the final of the 2021 Argentina Open and in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Argentina Open, and also in the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Rio de January 2022.
The player from La Plata, Etcheverry (31), for his part, will debut in Tokyo against the local Mochizuki (201), who received an invitation to play the tournament, and if he wins, his next rival will emerge from the cross between the British Cameron Norrie (16 ) and the American Taylor Fritz (8), top favorite for the title and also defending champion since he won the 2022 edition.
The ATP 500 in Tokyo will be played on a fast surface, will distribute prizes of $2,178,980 and throughout its history it had an Argentine tennis player who became champion, Juan Martín Del Potro from Tandil in the 2013 edition.
