Oct 14 (Reuters) – India is interested in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the opening ceremony of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai on Saturday.

The country has never hosted an Olympic Games, but in 2010 Delhi hosted the Commonwealth Games.

“India will spare no effort to organize the Olympic Games in 2036. It is the old dream of 1.4 billion Indians, it is their aspiration,” Modi declared.
“We want to make this dream come true with your collaboration and support (…) I am confident that India will get the support of the IOC,” he added.
Last month, Polish President Andrzej Duda said his country was hopeful of hosting the 2036 Olympics, while Indonesia and Mexico are also expected to bid to host the biggest sporting event.
Modi also said that India will try to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2029.
“Sport is not only about winning medals, but also about winning hearts,” he said.
