Bayern’s basketball players demonstrate their strength in the cup. In a new edition of last year’s final, Oldenburg has no chance. The second big favorite also has no trouble.
Defending champion Bayern Munich reached the quarter-finals of the Basketball Bundesliga Cup without much trouble. Bayern clearly won in their own hall against EWE Baskets Oldenburg with 101:73 (55:35). In doing so, the Munich team took revenge for the defeat in the league in Oldenburg almost two weeks ago.
Bayern had everything under control at BMW Park from the start and started with a 13-2 run. Although Lower Saxony reduced the score to four points (16:20) in the course of the first quarter, the hosts then pulled away again. Even at halftime, the game was practically decided with Munich leading by 20 points.
Bayern also prevailed against Oldenburg in the final of last season and thus won their only title of the 2022/23 season. This time the hosts’ best thrower was Carsen Edwards with 20 points.
Thiemann shines in Alba victory
Alba Berlin also got rid of their cup task easily and relaxed. The capital city team clearly prevailed against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig with 96:71 (51:34). World champion Johannes Thiemann shone with 20 points.
Bamberg Baskets and Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels also made it to the quarterfinals. Rasta Vechta, Telekom Baskets Bonn, Niners Chemnitz and ratiopharm Ulm had previously made it into the top eight.
