“Writing what we are about to write hurts in many ways. It hurts because it affects a person who meant a lot to us and our careers,” write the Ingebrigtsen brothers Jakob, Olympic and world champions in the 1500 meters, as well as his internationally highly successful brothers Henrik and Filip in the Norwegian newspaper “Verdens Gang”.

It’s about her father Gjert, who trained and shaped her from a young age. The brothers broke with him in February 2022. Since then, there have been speculations about the background.

“When we broke up with Gjert, we thought we could resolve the situation in an orderly manner without mentioning the underlying circumstances. We now realize that is not possible,” the statement continued.

“We grew up with a father who was very aggressive and controlling and used physical violence and threats as part of his upbringing. We still feel discomfort and fear that have accompanied us since childhood.” As the police confirm, an investigation has been initiated.

Father Ingebrigtsen rejected the allegations. “I’m far from perfect as a father and husband, but I’m not violent,” he said, explaining that the family was in a “tragic situation” because of the public dispute.
