“ASK Voitsberg is at the top of the table for a reason. They have strengthened enormously in the summer,” says Peter Madritsch, coach of Union Gurten, before today’s regional league home game (7 p.m.) against the promotion hopefuls from Styria. The fans can look forward to a really top game between the fourth-placed Gurtner and ASK Voitsberg. It is the fourth home game in a row for the Madritsch team. After the victories against Gleisdorf and Bad Gleichenberg as well as the 1-1 draw against Vorwärts Steyr, they want to extend the winning streak.
Five home games in a row
The reason for the five-game series of home games (next week the WAC Amateurs will play in Gurten in the last game) is the general renovation of the home pitch. This will begin in spring 2024, and the Gurtners will then play the last games of the season abroad.
Madritsch sees his team as underdogs against Voitsberg, but this has suited the Gurtners well for many years. “I would probably take a draw, but it’s not like we’re not capable of a win. If we make full use of our virtues and strengths over 90 minutes, then a surprise is possible. In general, I expect an open one Exchange of blows,” says Madritsch. In terms of personnel, the successful coach can rely on the entire squad apart from the two long-term injured Rene Kienberger (torn Achilles tendon) and Florian Schütz (bone marrow edema in the ankle).

JW already conceded 35 goals
With 22 goals, the Young Vikings even scored two more goals than Gurten. The reason why SV Ried’s second team is in second-to-last place in the table with ten points is due to their defense. The Rieders have already conceded 35 goals in 13 games. In the last four games alone, the Young Vikings’ goal has been hit no less than 16 times. They want to do better at the home game on Saturday, October 28th against third-placed Wallern. Because of the professionals’ home game on Sunday, the game will not be played in the Innviertel Arena, but in the Klaus Roitinger Stadium. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m.
