Argentine Mercado finishes far in Spain where Bautista wins Superbike title

The Argentine Leandro Mercado (Honda) finished today in seventeenth position in the initial race of the motorcycle Superbikes, whose final date in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, today declared champion the Spanish Alvaro Bautista (Ducati), winner of the competition.

The Córdoba driver, who replaced the injured Eric Granado, returned to the Petronias MIE team and was far from the leading positions throughout the 20 laps of the challenge.

The native of Jesús María, 31 years old, arrived at 58s. 075/1000 of the winner, the two-time champion Bautista, who concluded the competition in a time of 33m. 44s. 752/1000.

Mercado thus completed his only intervention in the World Superbike Championship (WSK), since during 2023 he participated in the German Championship of the specialty (IDM).

Bautista won the competition with 1s. 195/1000 difference over the Turkish Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha), his main pursuer in the tournament. The third and last step of the podium was occupied by the Italian Andrea Locatelli (Yamaha), 9s behind. 071/1000.

Tomorrow, starting at 9:00 in Argentina, the second competition of the weekend will take place in Jerez de la Frontera and the last of the season.
