Gmunden’s longing for the Upper Austrian league

Gmunden’s longing for the Upper Austrian league

This is what winners look like: Gmunden remains undefeated

After the 2-1 win against Pettenbach, SV Gmunden continued to march through the season in the Landesliga West without any blemishes – and were crowned autumn champions early with an eleven point lead. It’s clear that the word promotion has been around for a long time due to the confident lead in the table at Traunsee. In the club itself you can see it in a very relaxed way.

“For the 100th anniversary in 2021, we have issued the motto that we aim to return to the Upper Austrian league within five years,” explained President Gerhard Riedl and added: “The current run of sporting success is very pleasing, but we leave it But it certainly doesn’t blind us.” The official does not deny that there is a great longing for the country’s top division: “Of course it would be nice to achieve the goal this season. The Upper Austrian league is the ultimate for the amateur clubs in the state.”

No victory in the pipeline

The foundation for the upswing was already laid in the winter. At that time, the sporting leadership and coaching team were put on a completely new footing. “It was clearly communicated that we see the spring as a kind of preparation for the new season.” The following summer, the first conclusions were drawn and the squad was adapted: eight departures were offset by the same number of additions. “In five preparatory games we didn’t manage to win a single one,” revealed Riedl. Postscript: “But the longer the team was together, the better it got. The coaching team works excellently.” If things continue like this, the longing for the Upper Austrian League may soon be satisfied…
