When Kimberly García of Peru crossed the finish line after walking 20 km at the Pan American Games, the clock stopped at 1:12:26 hours.

This would mean that she would have beaten China’s Yang Jiayu’s record by eleven minutes. However, the route was three kilometers too short.

“We noticed it from the first kilometer. The time didn’t match the distance,” said Garcia. The organizers admitted measurement problems.
