Football: DFB Cup: bonuses and TV times

32 teams are still there when the second round of the DFB Cup is played this week. The route to the final in Berlin is also financially attractive.

For the 32 clubs in the second round of the DFB Cup this week it’s not just about sporting success, but also about money. In the second main round, each club receives a fixed amount of 431,200 euros.

In total, the German Football Association will distribute 69 million euros from the first round to the semi-finals, as the association announced. The amounts “increased significantly at the start of the new 2022/2023 marketing cycle”. In the first round, each club received 215,600 euros.

And victories in the second round games on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week are also worthwhile. The round of 16 will receive 862,400 euros each, and the quarterfinals will receive 1,724,800 euros. The four semi-finalists will receive 3,449,600 euros. There is also income from the live broadcasts, which are determined in the knockout rounds. The bonus for participants in the final on May 25th in the Berlin Olympic Stadium has not yet been determined.

Where the DFB Cup can be seen on TV

This Tuesday, ZDF is broadcasting the old classic between the second division team 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the first division team 1. FC Köln. Kick-off is at 8:45 p.m. A day later, it’s ARD’s turn with the second round game of the German soccer record champions Bayern Munich against the third division team 1. FC Saarbrücken. This game also starts at 8:45 p.m. After the respective live broadcasts, summaries of the remaining seven games of the respective day can be seen on both ZDF and ARD. All 16 games can also be seen live on the pay TV channel Sky.

There are significantly more live broadcasts of the DFB Cup at no additional cost than the Bundesliga. In the most recent tender, ARD and ZDF secured a total of 15 games in the national cup competition per season. The contract with the German Football Association is valid until 2025/26.

The pay TV channel Sky shows all games in the competition live. The broadcasts are not included in the Bundesliga package, but – like tennis and Formula 1 – in the sports package.
