DFB Cup draw: Dortmund in the cup round of 16 in Stuttgart

For the first time in more than 30 years, only six Bundesliga teams are in the cup round of 16. After FC Bayern and RB Leipzig, among others, were eliminated, Borussia Dortmund has to play in Stuttgart.

The German runner-up Borussia Dortmund has to play against Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. This was the result of the draw in the German Football Museum in Dortmund.

Bayern’s conquerors 1. FC Saarbrücken from the 3rd football league will also meet last year’s finalists Eintracht Frankfurt. There will be a second pure Bundesliga duel on December 5th or 6th between Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg.

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen meet SC Paderborn, and there will also be a comparison between second division teams Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV. The only remaining fourth division team FC 08 Homburg welcomes FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Magdeburg also has to play at Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Kaiserslautern has home advantage against 1. FC Nürnberg. The round of 16 matches will take place at the beginning of December, with the first quarter-finals continuing at the end of January. The final will take place on May 25th in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Defending champions RB Leipzig (0-1 against VfL Wolfsburg) and record winners FC Bayern Munich (1-2 at 1. FC Saarbrücken) were eliminated in the second round. For the first time in more than 30 years, only six Bundesliga clubs are in the round of 16. This was previously only the case in the 1992/93 season.
