The CAS analyzes the appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee after the IOC sanction

He Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) will analyze the appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee (COR) against the sanction adopted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)which resolved suspend that body with immediate effect for “unilaterally” adding Ukrainian regions and “violating” the Olympic Charter.

The COR requested that the decision of the IOC Executive Commission and that it be “reinstated” as a national Olympic committee recognized by the IOC, “benefiting from all the rights and prerogatives granted by the Olympic Charter.”

He TAS reported that the procedure has already begun and that “it is at the moment of exchanging written documentation between the parties”, together with the constitution of the panel of arbitrators that will resolve the case, after holding a hearing for which there is still no specific date, the newspaper Mundo Deportivo specifies with information from the EFE agency.

The panel’s decision “shall be final and binding, with the exception of the parties’ right to file an appeal before the Swiss Federal Court within a period of 30 days,” recalled the CAS.

The IOC Executive Commission suspended the COR on the grounds that the “unilateral decision” adopted by the Russian Olympic Committee on October 5, 2023 to include among its members regional sports organizations that are under the authority of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.

The Russian Olympic Committee incorporated Ukrainian regions such as; Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhia.
