The handball players of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf have dealt record champions THW Kiel the next blow in the Bundesliga.
Lower Saxony won their home game 36:33 (20:17). After their fifth defeat of the season, the Kiel team fell behind the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Hanover in seventh place. Mannheim won 32:28 (17:15) against SC DHfK Leipzig. The gap between Kiel and leaders Füchse Berlin is now nine points.
Strong defensive performance
Thanks to a strong defensive performance, the hosts found their way into the game straight away. U21 world champion Justus Fischer made it 6:2 (6th minute), Swedish playmaker Jonathan Edvardsson increased it to 9:3 (12th). THW trainer Filip Jicha asked for a time out and demanded “a little more body language from each individual.” To do this, the Kiel team now relied on the seventh field player. The Lions only had some problems with their guests from Saxony in the first half. After 12:14 (22nd), Mannheim continued to pull away. Playmaker Juri Knorr (10 goals) and pivot Jannik Kohlbacher (8) together scored more than half of the goals for the hosts.
