FC Bayern replaces Bayer Leverkusen at the top – for the time being. Borussia Dortmund suffers another setback. No goals are scored in the fight against relegation.
FC Bayern has taken over the top spot in the Bundesliga, at least for one night. Thanks to further goals from Harry Kane, the record champions won against promoted team 1. FC Heidenheim 4:2 (2:0). Bayer Leverkusen can overtake Munich again on Sunday.
Third-placed VfB Stuttgart celebrated a 2-1 (1-1) win against Borussia Dortmund thanks to Serhou Guirassy’s goal comeback. BVB already has eight points less than Bayern.
TSG Hoffenheim remains within reach of the top group thanks to the 1-1 (1-0) draw at FC Augsburg. In the fight against relegation, FSV Mainz 05 couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw at Darmstadt 98, but still occupied relegation place 16 behind the Lilies, at least until Sunday evening. In the evening (6.30 p.m./Sky) VfL Bochum meets 1. FC Köln.
Kane is on target again
Kane (14th) gave Bayern the lead with a shot from the turn and scored his 17th goal of the season (44th) before the break. The Englishman has now scored more goals than last season’s top scorers, Niclas Füllkrug and Christopher Nkunku.
Bayern actually had little trouble against the newly promoted team, but in the second half Tim Kleindienst (67′) and Jan-Niklas Beste (70′) scored to equalize after a mistake by Min-jae Kim. Raphaël Guerreiro (72′) put Bayern back in the lead a little later. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (85th) decided the game.
Hummels was replaced with an injury
In Stuttgart, BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel caught Deniz Undav off his feet in the penalty area early in the game. Kobel saved Chris Führich’s due and weakly shot penalty without much trouble (11th). VfB was still significantly better in the game. Dortmund also had to do without the visibly injured Mats Hummels from the 28th minute onwards; Ramy Bensebaini came on in his place.
BVB still scored the first goal: Füllkrug (36th) put the guests in the lead. Undav (42nd) scored the deserved equalizer shortly before the break. After Kobel’s second serious foul, this time on Silas Katompa Mvumpa, Guirassy (83′) took advantage of the penalty to take the lead.
Game in Augsburg briefly interrupted
TSG took the lead through Wout Weghorst, who scored with a header in the 23rd minute. Ermedin Demirović (53rd) made the home fans celebrate the equalizer. After a good individual performance, the 25-year-old scored with a slightly deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area. The game had to be briefly interrupted in the 58th minute because of a firecracker set off in the fan block and one fan was treated.
In Darmstadt, both teams found it difficult to build up pressure in front of the opposing goal. The fans hardly saw any chances to score in the first half – but they did see them in the briefly entertaining final phase.
