Late goals, strong performances and riots: there is a lot going on on the 13th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga. St. Pauli maintains the top of the table as HSV loses away again.
In the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga, Hamburger SV was once again weak away from home and lost important points.
Due to a 2:4 (0:1) defeat in the northern duel at Holstein Kiel, HSV missed catching up with leaders FC St. Pauli in the table. Coach Tim Walter’s team remained winless in their fifth league away game in a row, but are in second place in the table, three points behind city rivals St. Pauli, at least until Sunday
HSV, whose last away win in the league was more than two months ago, showed morale in Kiel and overcame a 2-0 deficit thanks to Robert Glatzel’s goals. In the end, the Kiel team celebrated, as they are currently only one point behind Hamburg in third place.
Braunschweig leaves 18th place
Eintracht Braunschweig was also able to celebrate: In a dramatic final phase of the basement duel against VfL Osnabrück, the Braunschweig team were in the lead twice, but had to accept the 2-2 late on – before Eintracht’s Ermin Bicakcic scored the winning goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time to make it 3-2 ( 1:1) succeeded. With its second win of the season, Braunschweig moved past Osnabrück in the table to 17th place.
1. FC Nürnberg’s performance at SC Paderborn on Saturday was confident. Just a week after the bitter last-minute home defeat against Schalke 04, Nuremberg showed a strong performance and deservedly won 3-1 (3-0) in Paderborn. As currently sixth in the table, FCN is only two points away from the promotion relegation place.
In the Friday evening games, newly promoted SV Elversberg surprised with a 2-1 (2-1) draw at FC Schalke 04, while league leaders St. Pauli and pursuers Hannover 96 drew 0-0. This game was overshadowed by riots during the game in the away fan block between the police and 96 supporters. According to police reports, there were at least 32 injured, including 17 police officers.
