Argentine tennis players Mariano Navone and Francisco Comesaña will face each other today in one of the semifinals of the Lima Challenger, on a clay surface and with prizes of $80,000.
Navone, born on July 9 and ranked 126 in the ATP world ranking, will face Comesaña from Mar del Plata (122) starting at 6:00 p.m. in the first semifinal of the tournament that will be played at the Club Las Terrazas de Miraflores of the Peruvian capital.
Next, the Argentine nationalized Italian Luciano Darderi (137) and the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (109) will animate the second semifinal, who has just become champion last Sunday in the Ecuadorian Challenger in Guayaquil.
The Lima Challenger had three Argentine champions throughout its history: Guido Andreozzi from Buenos Aires in 2012, Horacio Zeballos from Mar del Plata in 2013 and Guido Pella from Bahia in 2014.
This year, Argentine tennis players won 20 tournaments in the Challenger category, which is next in importance to the ATP, according to the following detail:
Mariano Navone achieved five tournaments by winning twice in Santa Fe, also in Poznan, Poland; in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in Bolivia; and in Buenos Aires.
Facundo Díaz Acosta became champion in Savannah, United States, in Oeiras, Portugal, and in Milan, Italy; while Juan Manuel Cerúndolo raised the trophy twice, both at the Hacoaj Nautical Club facilities, in Tigre.
Francisco Comesaña from Mar del Plata also won two titles, in Vicenza, Italy, and Liberec, in the Czech Republic; like “Fefo” Coria, who won in Concepción, Chile, and in Szczecin, Poland; and Thiago Agustín Tirante from La Plata, who was crowned in Morelos, Mexico, and in Bogotá, Colombia.
The other four titles were from Andrea Collarini in Piracicaba, in São Paulo, Brazil; Federico Delbonis in Cali, Colombia; Genaro Alberto Olivieri in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Camilo Ugo Carabelli in Antofagasta, Chile.
