San Isidro Club (SIC) was crowned champion of the Top 12 of the Buenos Aires Rugby Union (URBAN) by agonizingly defeating Alumni by 15-12, with the conversion of a penalty by Joaquín Lamas in injury time, in a final played at the Club Atlético de San Isidro (CASI).
The match, witnessed by 7,000 spectators, was directed by referee Tomás Bertazza, with a favorable score for Alumni of 9-3.
With the victory in the “Cathedral”, SIC achieved its 27th title of champion of the Buenos Aires tournament, after playing its fourth consecutive final.
In a discreet definition, SIC reached the title with four penalties converted by Lamas, who also added a drop.
Minutes before the decisive execution, the admitted Joaquín Díaz Luzi missed a feasible penalty that would have given Alumini the possibility of winning the championship.
Alumni added twelve points with four penalties converted by Bautista Canzani.
San Isidrio rugby leads the historical table of URBA titles. CASI leads with 33 championships, while the current champion won the trophy 27 times. CUBA was further away, which has 15 crowns.
