Julia Hickelsberger-Füller is making her comeback in the women’s national team: Austria’s Footballer of the Year 2022, team boss Irene Fuhrmann, is available for the final two games of the Nations League in France (December 1st) and four days later in St. Pölten against Norway after a more than one-year break available again. In the two games, the ÖFB team has it in its own hands to secure relegation in the A-League.
Hickelsberger-Füller was last on the ball for the red-white-red team in November 2022, after which the Hoffenheim legionnaire was slowed down by muscular problems, a meniscus operation and a torn muscle bundle. “She had a very mixed year. We will deal with it responsibly,” said Fuhrmann.
In the Nations League, which is being held for the first time in League A, the Austrians are seven points behind France (10), but ahead of Portugal (3) and Norway (2) and are clearly on course to stay in the league, which the top two can achieve. “After we were able to avoid relegation after four games, I hope that we can avoid the play-offs,” explained Fuhrmann. The decision could come in Rennes: After the 0-1 home game, the Austrians want to score points in France. Fuhrmann: “If we think about the first leg, if we weren’t so stupid when conceding a goal, then we could have scored a point in Vienna.”
