Group of footballers launched a letter against Milei and in favor of Massa ahead of the runoff

The so-called “collective of footballers committed to social reality and politics”called “United Footballers”raised his flag ahead of the presidential elections in the country and expressed his firm position with an open letter on social networks.

There, a group of footballers and ex-footballers, both men and women, demonstrated against Javier Milei and in favor of Sergio Massa facing the runoff. “These are the players who play it”reads his post.

The text was signed by historical footballers such as Ubaldo Fillol, Fernando Signorini, Héctor “Negro” Enrique and Hugo Lamadridamong others.

This is how “Futbolistas Unidxs” expressed itself through social networks:

“Requested from footballers ahead of the November 19 ballot

We cannot stay on the sidelines when such an important game is being played (…). That is why today, when two country models are so openly and explicitly disputed, where the basic consensuses built by our young democracy are put into discussion, we want to express that we view with great concern the positions that Javier Milei represents, not only for its content but also for its forms.

With our silence, we do not want to be complicit in the hate speech that this candidate has been preaching for a long time, in the verbal violence that we know comes from physical violence, in the denial of what happened during the last military dictatorship that among the 30,000 compatriots who took, we counted 220 athletes.

With greater concern we observe the latest statements of the candidate where he claims the Sports Joint Stock Companies (SAD), because we fervently adhere to that motto that says that “one more kid in the club, is one less kid on the street”, because our clubs are not no one’s business, but the inclusion of thousands. And because we believe that passion is not privatized (…).

As footballers, and fundamentally as Argentines, we cannot and do not want to remain silent, because we know that many things are at stake in the next election: the minimum consensus of democracy and social coexistence (…).

That is why on November 19, the undersigned, we already know which side we want to be on at the crossroads where history puts us: for the kids of Malvinas, who we are not going to forget, for Diego and not for the war murderer Margaret Thatcher, for dissidents, for love and for the country, we call on you to accompany the formula headed by Sergio Massa.”
