It still takes a while until the big boxing spectacle. Next year, heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Alexander Usyk will compete against each other. The fighting is taking place in Saudi Arabia.
The big boxing spectacle between Tyson Fury and Alexander Usyk will take place on February 17th in Riyadh. “The whole boxing world has been waiting for this fight for so many years,” said promoter Frank Warren at a press conference in London.
A target date for this year and before Christmas did not materialize. After an exhibition fight in Saudi Arabia against former cage fighter Francis Ngannou (37), Fury wanted to rest first.
At the press conference, the 35-year-old Brit appeared to be in a good fighting mood and repeatedly provoked his rival, including with insults. “I will let actions speak for themselves in the ring,” Usyk said. “You can’t beat me, you’ll never be able to beat me,” Fury countered immediately and verbally lashed out quite wildly.
Fury and Usyk are still undefeated so far
The fight in Riyadh is about nothing less than the titles of all major associations. The 36-year-old Ukrainian Usyk holds the WBA, WBO and IBF titles. Fury is the WBC champion. The winner of the duel will be crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion. Both are undefeated so far.
“There will only be one winner. And I am determined to cement my legacy as the number one fighter of this era,” said Fury.
