The Austrian U21 national team urgently needs success in the ongoing European Championship qualification for the 2025 finals.
Team boss Werner Gregoritsch’s selection welcomes France today (6.30 p.m./live ORF Sport +) in the Innviertel Arena in Ried. The French lead qualifying group H with nine points from three games and 15:1 goals ahead of Slovenia (nine points from four games) and Austria (four points, three games).
Winning a point against the French, coached by former star striker Thierry Henry, would be a big surprise. If you still want to have a realistic chance in the fight for a European Championship ticket, this would definitely be important.
“It will be a very big challenge for us as a whole team. One look at the French squad is enough to see what quality they have in every part of the team,” explained Gregoritsch. Tickets for the duel against the French world-class team, in which Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel also plays, are available online at www.svried.at, the box office is open today from 5 p.m. The winners of the nine qualifying groups and the three best runners-up in the group will qualify for the final round with 16 teams in the summer of 2025. The remaining six group runners-up will determine three other European Championship participants in a play-off.
Another game in Ried
Austria’s U21 will play a final friendly against North Macedonia on Tuesday, November 21st, also in Ried. The European Championship qualification continues on March 26th with the home game against Cyprus. It can be assumed that this game will also be played in Ried.
