Handball Bundesliga: Kiel wins the top game against Füchse Berlin 30:26

The record champions flex their muscles and inflict the capital club’s first defeat of the season in the handball Bundesliga. This means that the North Germans are back in the title fight.

Handball record champions THW Kiel inflicted their first defeat of the season in the Bundesliga on Füchse Berlin.

The North Germans won 30:26 (14:10) in the Kiel Arena, which was sold out with 10,285 spectators, and maintained their chances of winning the title with 16:10 points. The Berliners are at 21:3 points. The best throwers, with nine goals each, were Domagoj Duvnjak for the THW and Mathias Gidsel for the Füchse.

It was clear from the start that the entire Kiel team wanted to erase the disgrace of the 18:27 defeat in the Champions League against Aalborg. However, the hosts had big problems in the early stages with Berlin goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev, who made several outstanding saves. Since the Foxes made many mistakes in their offensive actions, the game initially remained open.

Left winger Magnus Landin gave the hosts their first four-goal lead with a score of 13:9 in the 28th minute. “You can see today that we show a different face. We work hard in defense and we have good solutions up front,” said THW circle runner Patrick Wiencek at the break.

Led by the Dane Gidsel, the Berliners came back after the break and were able to catch up at 19:20 (42nd). With his goal to make it 27:22 (55th) into the empty Füchse goal, Niclas Ekberg set the course for Kiel’s victory.
