FC Bayern Munich is aiming for the quarter-finals in the premier class. In Paris, Magdalena Eriksson scores important points.
The FC Bayern Munich footballers have achieved their first victory in this year’s group stage of the Champions League.
The German champions and Bundesliga table leaders prevailed 1-0 (1-0) at Paris St. Germain after an effective and concentrated performance. Sweden’s Magdalena Erikson scored the goal of the day in the 21st minute for Munich.
Coach Alexander Straus’ team showed a strong reaction to the 2-2 draw at home against AS Roma a week ago. The next opponent on the way to the targeted quarter-finals is Ajax Amsterdam on December 14th. The Bayern women have never won the premier class title.
The Munich team used a free kick from Klara Bühl, which captain Glodis Viggosdottir headed across, to take the lead through Eriksson. Shortly afterwards, Lea Schüller missed the great chance to make it 2-0. Paris, led by long-injured striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto, otherwise kept the game even in the first half.
After the break, Bayern goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs barely saved a shot from the fast Tabitha Chawinga with a foot save. Otherwise, the semi-finalists from 2021 and 2022 – as before in the 2-0 defeat in Amsterdam – showed too little goal threat with some promising attacks.
