The SV Guntamatic Ried kickers have already climbed into the team bus for the away game in the 2nd football league at FC Dornbirn today – without knowing whether tomorrow’s game (2.30 p.m.) in the Ländle can even be kicked off. This weekend, winter is set to arrive in Austria – according to forecasts, up to half a meter of snow is expected in Vorarlberg. For Ried it would be the second game that would have to be rescheduled: the last away game to date at the Sturm Graz Amateurs also had to be canceled the day before the game at the beginning of November after heavy rain.
If the forecast snowfall occurs tomorrow, a game tomorrow on the Birkenwiese would probably be out of the question. Dornbirn club officials have already warned the Bundesliga that things could become problematic. A cancellation would be bitter for the Vikings, especially because of the travel strain – even if the financial damage would at least be limited: If the game is canceled tomorrow, the home club is obliged to reimburse the visiting club a flat-rate compensation cost of 1,800 euros.
But the Rieders are hoping for a kick-off – they want to further extend their unbeaten series of seven league games. Coach Maximilian Senft’s team will definitely have to overcome themselves: “We are aware that the pitch conditions are difficult in Dornbirn and we are preparing for a game that will be more about honest football than beautiful football,” says Senft , who, in addition to the long-term injured Ziegl, Pomer and Gragger, also has to do without the ill Seufert.
