Star coach Pep Guardiola is not making his stay at Manchester City dependent on the outcome of the investigation into possible violations of the Premier League’s financial rules. He wanted to wait for the verdict, “but I will definitely not think about my future if it depends on being here or in League One,” said the Spaniard. He even emphasized: “The chances of staying are greater if we are in League One than if we win the Champions League.”
The Premier League is accusing City of around 80 alleged breaches of its financial rules and 30 other breaches for allegedly failing to cooperate with an investigation. In the worst case scenario, the English champions face exclusion from the league.
Pep Guardiola defends Manchester City
“We don’t agree with what people are accusing us of,” said Guardiola: “We will defend ourselves. And after the decision is made, I will be here as a spokesman for my club.”
In terms of sport, however, things are going well again for Guardiola and the triple winner. Ahead of the top game this Saturday (1:30 p.m.) against Liverpool FC under coach Jürgen Klopp, City leads the table in England ahead of the Reds.
