The defending World Cup champion defended his second place after jumping with a solo run behind the superior Jarl Magnus Riiber in Ruka on Saturday. The Norwegian won in 26:17.3 minutes, 53.8 seconds ahead of the Tyrolean. Riiber also took the overall lead in the World Cup before the mass start on Sunday. Third place went to Jörgen Graabak (NOR/+1:26.8).
The second best Austrian was Stefan Rettenegger, who achieved his best World Cup result to date with fourth place. He was 1:56.3 seconds behind at the finish and almost half a minute short of the podium.
Lamparter started the season in sixth place at the compact premiere the day before. On Saturday he started the cross-country skiing 32 seconds behind, but he was unable to endanger Riiber that day.
Franz-Josef Rehrl, who was in sixth place behind Rettenegger after the jump, had to pass for the 10 km on the cross-country ski trail because he is still not completely fit. Rehrl did not take part in the compact race at the start due to a cold. Thomas Rettenegger was eleventh after the jump and ended up in 16th place, Martin Fritz was 21st.
