The best time went to the Frenchman Cyprien Richard, who with number 30 beat the Canadian James Crawford by 78 hundredths of a second. The best ÖSV racer was Upper Austrian Daniel Hemetsberger (+1.04 seconds), who finished fourth just ahead of the Norwegian “Birds of Prey” series winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
“I actually managed it quite well,” said Hemetsberger after his ride in almost perfect conditions. “I won’t get much faster anymore.” Marco Schwarz (+1.43) also appeared in the top ten in eighth place, as did tenth-placed Daniel Danklmaier (+1.58) when 40 runners crossed the finish line. Otmar Striedinger, who was struggling with back problems, was 2.80 seconds behind.
Bad luck for Kriechmayr
Vincent Kriechmayr, who was the first Austrian to take to the track, ended up almost ten seconds behind after a mistake in the lower part. “Unfortunately it was a very unsuccessful training session,” said the Upper Austrian.
The first speed competitions of this season will take place in Colorado with the two downhill runs and the Super-G on Sunday (6.45 p.m. CET/live ORF 1). The speed opener in Zermatt/Cervinia, planned with two downhill runs, was canceled two and a half weeks ago due to bad weather.
