The former Argentine judoka Paula ParetoOlympic champion in Rio de Janeiro 2016was chosen as one of the candidates to join the Athletes Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
He Argentine Olympic Committeechaired by Mario Moccia and in which Pareto is vice president of the Athletes Commission and representative of the athletes on the Board of Directors of the institution, was the one that nominated the “Peque”, who is also a member of the Athletes Commission of the International Judo Federationsince 2021.
In total, 32 athletes – 18 women and 14 men – will run for election to fill one of the four vacant places on the IOC Athletes’ Commission, which will be filled next year during the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Four candidates from four different sports will be chosen by all the athletes competing in Paris 2024, who will be able to vote in the Olympic Village during the course of the Games. The four outgoing elected members of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, who were elected at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and whose mandate will expire at the end of Paris 2024, are: Daniel Gyurta (Swimming, Hungary), Britta Heidemann (Fencing, Germany), Yelena Isinbaeva (Athletics, Russia) and Seung-min Ryu (Table tennis, Republic of Korea).

Pareto, considered one of the best national athletes of all time, became the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal for Argentina in Rio 2016.
The former judoka, a doctor by profession, participated in four Olympic Games in the category up to 48kg: in Beijing 2008 she won the bronze medal; In London 2012 she obtained the Olympic Diploma for her fifth place; She became Olympic champion in Rio 2016 and ended her successful sports career with a seventh place in Tokyo 2020.
