The fall season of the second soccer league is entering the home stretch. SV Guntamatic Ried only finishes against FAC on Sunday (10.30 a.m.). On paper, the people of Innviertel have a much more difficult task. Even with victories against the Viennese and in the supplementary game against the Sturm Graz Amateure, there is a great danger of going into the winter break eight points behind league leaders GAK. A big deficit with a view to the 14 remaining games in the spring, a large part of which have to be played for both teams against teams that are significantly below their own qualities. And that primarily plays into the hands of the GAK.
This also applies to today’s game between Styria and Amstetten. The Mostviertlers are at the bottom of the table with four points. So far they haven’t won a single game this fall. However, like in Rieder’s 3-2 win in Amstetten in the last second, they were always close to points.
Today, help for the Innviertel team would be almost as important as it was in the promotion year of 2020: At that time, Amstetten Ried’s title rivals Austria Klagenfurt suffered a 2-1 defeat two rounds before the end. A draw would have been enough for the Carinthians to go into the final round ahead of Ried as league leaders, in which the famous race for goal difference took place. Klagenfurt’s 6:1 against Innsbruck was not enough because Ried won against FAC 9:0. The regulations were then changed. Now, if there is a tie on points, the goal difference no longer counts.
Mourning for diawusia
SV Ried is in great shock after the death of ex-Ried player Agyemang Diawusie, who always stood out in the Innviertel for his positive nature. The 25-year-old died on Tuesday. Yesterday, his last employer, SSV Regensburg, confirmed that the cause of death was “sudden cardiac death, presumably caused by a viral infection with suspected myocarditis.” The weekend game against Freiburg will still take place after consultation with Diawusie’s family.
