Painful theft from the River Museum: they took the oldest trophy

The oldest trophy in the history of Club Atlético River Plate, a cup obtained in 1911 and made of 18 carat gold, was stolen from the museum that the “Millonario” has next to its stadium, after the display case where it was exhibited was broken, police sources reported today.

The theft was detected this afternoon, when workers from the River Museumlocated on Avenida Presidente Figueroa Alcorta at 7500, meters from the Mas Monumental stadium, they detected the missing Galician Center Cup of Avellaneda 1911.

Police spokespersons reported that as a result of the theft, City Police officers went to the scene and found that the display case where the trophy, about 20 centimeters long and made of 18-karat gold, was displayed was broken.

The uniformed officers surveyed the security cameras that the museum has, located on the ground floor and the first floor, towards the emergency exit, with the aim of being able to identify the perpetrator of the incident.

The 1911 Avellaneda Galician Center Cup was a friendly tournament played between River Plate and Independentthrough which the “Millonario” obtained the trophy after beating the “Red” 4 to 1 on January 1, 1911, and 5 to 3 in the rematch played five days later.
