Professional boxer Felix Sturm also won the rematch against Sükrü Altay. The 44-year-old former world champion defeated the Turk, who was five years his junior, by technical knockout in the ninth of ten scheduled rounds in Ludwigsburg.
The referee stopped the duel after Altay took heavy hits and appeared dazed. Sturm had laboriously won his first light heavyweight fight 2-1 in March.
Sturm celebrated his 44th victory in his 53rd professional fight with his son Mahir on his shoulders. The five-time world champion, who will turn 45 at the end of January next year, then left the possibility of continuing his career open.
“If I were to stop today, it would be a very, very nice setting,” said Sturm. He said, referring to his family, that he doesn’t yet know what’s coming and he doesn’t have to decide on his own. “We will discuss this calmly. We will let everything come to us. There are one or two offers, but we will see what is resilient and what is still worthwhile,” explained the boxer with Bosnian-Herzegovinian roots.
