The Innviertel team celebrated a 5-0 win against the amateur team from Sturm Graz in yesterday’s supplementary game in the 2nd league, and were the first pursuers of league leaders GAK, eight points behind in second place.

“We definitely want to go into the winter break in second place,” said sports director Wolfgang Fiala before the away game in Wiener Neustadt – the Styrians had to move to a foreign federal state due to the unplayability of their actual home ground in Gleisdorf. The Vikings’ kickers made his wish come true.

After just five minutes, the Rieders were pointing to victory: As in the most recent away game in Dornbirn, an out-throw-in led to the goal: Nikki Havenaar had thrown the ball directly into the danger area, defender Oliver Steurer was in the right position and scored with the help of a storm Actor to make it 1-0.

A goal that once again underlined the scoring threat of Rieder’s defensive forces: It was the eleventh goal by a Rieder defender this season – the best in the second highest division.

Four goals in the second half

But Ried’s attacking department can also score goals – Mark Grosse proved that in the 55th minute: In the thick fog of the second half, the Ried striker kept his perspective and scored his eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Belmin Beganovic added another goal in the 64th minute: Wilfried Eza intercepted a ball from Graz and immediately served the 19-year-old, who remained ice cold in front of the goal.

In the finish, Eza (76th) and substitute Nik Marinsek (87th) extended the lead even further.
