A white long beard, a bishop’s hat and a bishop’s crook. This is how Santa Claus makes children’s eyes light up every year. On St. Nicholas’ name day yesterday, he went from house to house again – and even stopped by the training of FC Blau-Weiß Linz: Together with Volkshilfe Oberösterreich, the Bundesliga soccer team invited 20 children from families at risk of or affected by poverty and seven (Young) adults with disabilities from the LebensArt residential associations take part in the public training of the professionals in the Auwiesen sports park. There were also numerous children on site who followed the call via social media and the website. In addition to autographs and photos with the football professionals, the children were also able to train with the Bundesliga team. Head coach Gerald Scheiblehner and his team gave first-hand tips. After the training, Santa Claus surprised the children and young adults present and handed out FC Blau-Weiß Linz chocolate Santa Clauses, Santa hats and free tickets for the last home game of the year.

“We were very moved by the shining eyes of the numerous children and young people at the last public training session in 2023, including people with disabilities and those from families at risk of poverty. As is well known, we are a club you can touch and we also want to win new fans with our approachability. We are aware of our social and societal responsibility. We are all the more pleased that we were able to provide the children and young adults with happy hours through this campaign and our small gifts and show once again that FC Blau-Weiß Linz is more than a football club “We stand for values and diversity,” says Christoph Peschek, Managing Director of FC Blau-Weiß Linz.

“With this invitation and campaign, FC Blau-Weiß Linz not only brought great joy to numerous children from the families we look after, the afternoon was also an absolute highlight for the participating residents of our facilities. After all, you don’t have that every day Opportunity to not only look closely at the feet of football professionals, but also to train with them. A big thank you from me for that too!” says Mag. Jasmine Chansri, MBA, Managing Director of Volkshilfe Oberösterreich.
