Huachipato, led by Buenos Aires coach Gustavo Álvarez, became champion of the Chilean soccer league today after beating Audax Italiano at home by 2 to 0 and surpassing Cobresal in the table, which had reached the last day as leader but fell to Unión Española by 1 to 0.
The goals at the Huachipato CAP-Acero stadium, located in the southern city of Talcahuano, were scored by Paraguayan striker Cris Martínez, at 24 minutes into the second half, and by Chilean attacker Maximiliano Rodríguez, at 28 minutes.
In the champion today Argentine striker Julián Brea started, while scorer Pablo Magnin entered the complement and midfielder Renzo Malanca was called up, but did not enter.
National midfielders Gonzalo Ríos and Gabriel Hachen participated in the visit, as well as forward Gonzalo Sosa, while midfielder Alessandro Riep entered in the second half.
In this way, the ‘Acereros’ were consecrated for the third time in their history in the Chilean league, after the 1974 championships and the 2012 Clausura Tournament, while Álvarez accumulated his second personal title, after winning the Primera B Nacional with Aldosivi from Mar del Plata in 2018.
The consecration was possible thanks to the defeat of Cobresal, which depended on itself but fell in the visit to Unión Española by 1 to 0, with a goal from full-back Stefano Magnasco at 14 minutes of the complement.
The team from northern Chile, where the Argentine goalkeeper Leandro Requena, the midfielders Franco García, Alejandro Camargo and Walter Rueda and the scorer Gastón Lezcano were starters, were left with 56 points in the general table compared to 57 for the champion team.
Both clubs qualified for the 2024 Copa Libertadores along with Colo Colo, which today defeated Curicó Unidos 1-0 as a visitor, with a goal from full-back Erick Wiemberg in the 18th minute of the second half.
In the team led by Argentine Gustavo Quinteros, his compatriots Ramiro González Hernández, Emiliano Amor and Leonardo Gil started, while Leandro Benegas entered in the second half and Fernando de Paul and Agustín Bouzat did not enter.
The last date of the Chilean league will end tomorrow, where the last qualifier for the Copa Sudamericana will be defined between Unión La Calera (41) and Universidad Católica (39) and the second relegation, between Magallanes (29) and Deportes Copiapó (31).
