Dutch driver Max Verstappen and Red Bull have just finished the most dominant season in Formula 1, but the triple world champion said this Friday that “there are always things to improve.”
Red Bull won 21 of 22 races this year, while its 26-year-old driver took a record 19 wins, including an unprecedented ten in a row, and set a host of other historic records.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the FIA Awards Gala in Baku, Verstappen said it had been a really enjoyable season and he hoped to maintain the momentum in 2024 and reach new milestones.
“Realistically, of course it can’t be much better than what we’ve achieved, but I think it’s not always about trying to win 20 (races),” he added.
“If that means we’ve improved the car and can fight for the championship again, but only win ten races, that’s fine too,” he added.
“There are always things we can improve, we know that.”
“Of course the car has been very, very dominant, but we have also seen some things that we can do better and that is what, of course, we are working on for next year.”
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said the team always strives for perfection, but he expects rivals to be closer next season.
“I doubt we will be able to achieve again, statistically, what we have done this year,” said the Briton, who praised Verstappen’s consistency in an amazing year.
“You’re always learning in this business,” Horner said.
“We know the field will converge, we’ve seen it at different points over the course of the last year.”
“We have to improve, we have to continue evolving,” he concluded.
