For a long time they were behind against Superliga table leaders Klosterneuburg, but in the end the Raiffeisen Flyers Wels emerged 81:78 winners in the Basketball Cup semi-finals after extra time. Led by Arvydas Gydra, who scored 24 points, and Christian von Fintel, who scored what was probably the decisive three-pointer in overtime, the Welsers managed the turnaround.
Traiskirchen is now waiting in the final. The three-time cup winner Traiskirchen (1997, 2000, 2001), who last reached the final in 2006, beat UBSC Graz 85:66 (43:40) in the semifinals on Sunday. It is the first final for the Flyers, the previous club WBC was cup winner in 2006.
“It was a tough game today. They hit a couple threes, then we fell behind early. But as a team we fought back, defended as a team and got the win,” Lions player Jaquan Lawrence said.
