EM 2021: will Corona prevent the final at Wembley? Uefa has an emergency plan

The corona pandemic and its consequences for the European football championship. Because a heated discussion has broken out around the final games of Euro 2020 in London’s Wembley Stadium. The background to this is the increasing number of infections with the delta mutation of the coronavirus and the associated health risks from travelers. Because the incidence in Great Britain is rising again and therefore the British government could order quarantine requirements for Uefa and Fifa officials, politicians, sponsors and journalists. If the government around Prime Minister Boris Johnson does not grant special permission, it could be, according to the English newspaper “The Times”, that the final will no longer take place in Wembley. Uefa’s emergency plan would then provide for the games to be played in Budapest there in the stadium, which is fully occupied with 61,000 spectators, only three group games and one round of 16 are planned.
