RPL issues statement on fan protests

Tinkoff Russian Premier League (RPL) issued a statement on fan protests. This was announced on December 3 on the official website of the championship.

According to the head of the organization, Ashot Khachaturyants, the RPL is doing everything necessary to resolve the situation with the protests of organized groups of fans after the arrest of CSKA fans.

“Fans are the basis of football, and we are very sorry that at the next matches the teams may be left without the support of some of their fans,” Khachaturyants is quoted as saying on the league’s official website.

It is noted that on December 7, an expanded meeting of the Committee for Security and Work with Fans of the Russian Football Union (RFU) will be held. All interested parties will take part in it to find out all the details of what happened during and after the CSKA-Zenit match.

The conclusion of the committee will be forwarded to the Control and Disciplinary Committee (FTC) of the RFU for consideration of all circumstances at a meeting on December 9.

On November 28, the match between CSKA and Zenit took place, which ended with a score of 2: 0 in favor of the team from St. Petersburg. At the end of the meeting, there were reports of the arrests of CSKA fans. In the capital’s headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this information was confirmed. It was clarified that at the end of the match, the fans of the red and blue lit several dozen fires.

After the match, police officers drew up 51 reports on administrative violations. Most of them concern violation of the rules of behavior of spectators (25) and the use of alcohol in prohibited places or drugs (23).

At the same time, at least 25 CSKA fans may face a ban on attending sporting events in Russia.

In turn, the leadership of CSKA condemned the fans’ use of so many pyrotechnics, but stressed that the innocent should not suffer. The club promised to provide legal support to its fans
