Her series of four top-six finishes was in jeopardy as she finished eleventh in the jumps, but the local hero managed to improve in the 5 km cross-country skiing. Gyda Westvold Hansen celebrated her 14th World Cup victory en suite, Ida Marie Hagen (+42.0 seconds) ensured Norway’s double success. Johannes Lamparter achieved a good starting position in the men’s mass start.
The Tyrolean finished fourth in the 10 km cross-country race, just 1.1 seconds behind the Norwegian winner Jens Luraas Oftebro. “An ambitious race. I’m confident,” summarized Lamparter at the halfway point of the competition before the jumping scheduled for 5 p.m. (live ORF 1). Stefan Rettenegger was also happy with seventh place (+3.7 seconds). “Praise to our service people,” said the Salzburg native about the good material of the ÖSV team, of which Lukas Greiderer was the next best in 15th place (+48.3 seconds). Top star Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR) came ninth with slight problems (+8.0).
The women’s jumping had been canceled in the morning due to too much and gusty wind, so the provisional round from the previous day was counted. This put Hirner under pressure, although the jump result put her in good company: “It was the first time this winter that I was able to run with a group. And I was able to make really good use of it.” She has often worked well together with fourth-placed German Nathalie Armbruster. The Finnish Minja Korhonen (+1:41.2) came third on the podium for the first time.
The remaining four Austrians did not make it into the top 20 in a field of 28. Annalena Slamik was 21st (+4:46.2), Claudia Purker 24th (+5:41.0), Laura Pletz 25th ( +7:05.1) and Clara Mentil 28th (+9:30.0). At the front, Westvold Hansen, who is otherwise particularly impressive on the jumps, showed a strong race, even extended her lead and is now the first to have four Ramsau victories en suite. “She was too strong for me,” said Hagen, the otherwise strongest runner in the field. The first compact competition in the Women’s World Cup is scheduled for Saturday (10.35 a.m./2 p.m.).
