The winner of the first four World Cup competitions of the winter finished third in Engelberg on Saturday. Michael Hayböck fell from second to tenth place in the second round in changeable conditions. While half-time leader Andreas Wellinger even slipped to twelfth place, his German compatriot Pius Paschke celebrated his first victory.
“A tough game”
Engelberg. The Norwegian Marius Lindvik was also 1.8 points ahead of Kraft, who in turn was 1.7 points behind the 33-year-old Paschke. “It was a tough game, I’m not entirely happy with my last jump, but it was very difficult,” said Kraft, who went into the final in fourth place, almost five points behind, and referred to the wind conditions changing every minute. “It took a bit of luck. But I’m happy that it was enough for the podium. The jumps are right,” said Salzburg, who is still the clear leader in the overall World Cup before Sunday’s competition, in an ORF interview.
Hayböck with “mixed feelings”
Hayböck had “mixed emotions” as he was badly hit in the second round. “But I can’t blame myself that much. I’ll have to see whether it was me or the external circumstances. Nevertheless, it was a good competition,” explained the Upper Austrian.
Immediately behind Hayböck, Manuel Fettner came in eleventh, Jan Hörl was 14th. The German Klingenthal double winner Karl Geiger did not get past 20th place. Daniel Tschofenig was not allowed to compete because of an irregular suit. The Carinthian was one of several jumpers who did not make it through the particularly strict equipment checks that usually take place before the tour.
