Russian Daniil Medvedev defeated the representative of Germany Jan-Lennard Struff – he beat the opponent in two sets with the same score – 6: 4, 6: 4.
Earlier, Andrei Rublev beat the representative of Germany Dominik Kepfer in the first match of the Davis Cup semifinals.
Thus, the representatives of Russia won both singles matches, which allowed the Russian team to reach the Davis Cup final.
In the final, Russian tennis players will meet with the Croatian team.
On December 2, Daniil Medvedev defeated the representative of Sweden, Mikael Imer, with a score of 6: 4, 6: 4, thereby ensuring that Russia reached the semifinals of the tournament.
The Russian team includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrei Rublev, Aslan Karatsev, Karen Khachanov, as well as Evgeny Donskoy and Roman Safiullin. Due to the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency, the national team competes in the tournament without a national flag and anthem.
The final Davis Cup competitions are held from November 25 to December 5 in Spain, Italy and Austria. The Russians are two-time trophy winners (2002, 2006). The Spanish team is the current winner of the tournament.
